A revised version of Guy de Chauliac’s Chirurgia, enlarged with many new observations, amongst others on gunshot wounds and dislocations, by the anatomist Jean Tagault, professor of surgery at Paris who did the dissections for Jacques Dubois (Jacobus Sylvius). This version became the standard student textbook in 16th century England and was widely quoted. It is divided into 6 books on: i) tumours, ii) open wounds, iii) ulcers, iv) fractures, v) dislocations and vi) general surgery including the treatment of gangrene, rheumatism, wounds to the oesophagus, the importance of bone marrow and the medical use of wine. The 3 full page skeleton woodcuts are copied from Vesalius’ Tabulae Sex.
