Acton was a pupil and admirer of Philippe Ricord (see No. 1621 ff.) and an internationally recognized authority on venereal diseases. This treatise, originally published in England in 1841, contains several striking colored lithographs of the various manifestations of syphilis and gonorrhea in both sexes.
