Flint published the first edition of the present work at Philadelphia in 1866 and it reached the seventh and last edition in 1894. It was the best and most comprehensive book on general medicine of its day and still provides valuable insight into medicine as it was practiced in the latter years of the nineteenth century. The book was popular, widely read, and used as a text in many medical schools.
