Goddard, teacher of anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania and prominent medical editor, prepared this book with its twelve full-page plates for the medical student. The book was based on William E. Horner's (see No. 1499) Treatise on the special anatomy of the human body (1826) to which the student is referred for a complete discussion of the arteries. Goddard's basic purpose was to provide the student with an up-to-date account of the principal arteries and their trunks.
