ROBERT BENTLEY TODD (1809-1860) The cyclopaedia of anatomy and physiology. Sherwood, Gilbert, and Piper 1836-1859 Illus. 24.3 cm.
Todd was one of the outstanding British and European scientists who, through the use of the compound microscope, brought anatomy to a fine point of accuracy. In addition to his serving for many years as professor of physiology at King's College and Westminster Medical School, Todd maintained a private medical practice in London and wrote a number of fine works on both clinical and investigative medicine. In this massive and detailed work, Todd enlisted as contributors such prominent figures as Sir Richard Owen, Richard Quain, Thomas Bell, Gilbert Breschet, and Sir James Paget.
