Bonnet was physician to the Hôtel Dieu in Lyons where he held the posts of Chirurgien-majeur and Chirurgien-en-chef and established himself as a noted orthopedic surgeon. The text to this, his most famous work, details the clinical symptoms and combined medical and orthopedic treatment of diseases of the joints. The finely executed lithographs in Volume III illustrate a variety of conditions and therapeutic techniques, including immovable dressings, for which Bonnet was especially noted.
