For more information on this author or work, see number: 1695

Cutter's earlier work for the lay public (see No. 1695) met with so much success that he developed the present work as a textbook for schools, colleges, and families. His primary purpose was "to diffuse in the community, especially among the youth, a knowledge of Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Hygiene" (p. 6). To increase the usefulness of the book Cutter added appendices on first aid, nursing care, scientific terminology, and poisons. A section of instructions for teachers and parents includes suggestions on how to employ the one to three questions placed at the bottom of each page of the book. A series of ten anatomical plates are lacking in the University of Iowa Libraries' copy.
