The present work contains the lecture on parthenogenesis that Owen delivered to the Royal College of Surgeons in 1849 as the introductory talk to the Hunterian Lectures on Generation and Development. The University of Iowa Libraries' copy has been inscribed by Owen to Philip Duncan (1772-1863), keeper of the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford.
