“Stromeyer is the founder of modern surgery of the locomotor system. He advocated and practiced subcutaneous tenotomy for all deformities of the body arising from muscular defects” (Garrison-Morton 4321). Stromeyer was professor at Erlangen, Munich, Freiburg, and Kiel, and successively surgeon-general of the Schleswig-Holstein and Hannoverian armies and was the father of modern military surgery in Germany. He practically created the modern surgery of the locomotor system. He is thus one of the founders of orthopedics in recent times. His methods were introduced into England by Little.
