Behrend received his medical degree at Königsberg in 1826, traveled in Europe, and entered practice at Berlin in 1829. He was a very active author and medical journalist, editing several journals and multi-volume sets with numerous contributing authors. In the present work, Behrend presents thirty colored plates depicting a wide variety of non-syphilitic skin diseases. In the accompanying text, he gives synonyms by which the diseases are known, describes their symptoms and characteristics, and provides diagnostic criteria.
