As professor of clinical medicine and physician to the Hôtel Dieu, Trousseau developed a well-deserved reputation as an exceptional lecturer and teacher and an advocate of bedside teaching through clinical demonstration. Clinique médicale contains the bulk of his most important writings and passed through two editions in Trousseau's lifetime and was printed in an eleventh French edition in 1913.
