Billard was a prominent gynecologist at the time he wrote this pioneering work on pediatric pathology. Correlating his clinical observations with hundreds of autopsies on infants and children, he shed much needed light on an array of childhood illnesses, some of which had been thought to occur only in adults. Supplementing the text, which contains illustrative case histories, is a remarkable atlas containing ten colored plates showing various pathological conditions, including peptic ulcer, cerebral hernia, thrush, etc.
