SAMUEL GEORGE MORTON (1799-1851) Illustrations of pulmonary consumption, its anatomical characters, causes, symptoms and treatment. Key & Biddle 1834 xiii [4] 9-183 pp., 12 plates (part col.). 22.5 cm.
Morton, a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, did notable work in both natural history and clinical medicine. His investigations on the cranial anatomy of various races are considered milestones in anthropology. This work on tuberculosis was the first of its kind to be published in the United States and is a summary of the contemporary knowledge regarding consumption.
