This first American edition of Brierre de Boismont's work was translated from the second French edition of 1852 and is the book's first appearance in the English language. The translator, whose name does not appear in the book, commented that the book would appeal to theologians, philosophers, physicians, and lawyers because Brierre de Boismont relates his subject to their special areas of interest.
