HANS CARL LEOPOLD BARKOW (1798-1873) Erläuterungen zur Lehre von den Erweiterungen und Verkrümmungen der Gefässe Hirt 1871 xxiv, 38 pages 55 cm

Scarce first edition of this little known work on the arteries and circulatory system, and highlighting in particular aortic aneurysms, and a continuation of his studies outlined in the 1869 Verkrümmungen der gefässe. Hans Carl Leopold Barkow (1798-1875), was a noted German anatomist and physiologist. He took the chair of anatomy at Breslau in 1835, and in 1845 was appointed as Director of the Anatomical Institute, which flourished under his leadership. A renowned teacher, he was the author of a number of works, several of which are cited by Goldschmid and praised for their fine illustrations.
