For more information on this author or work, see number: 1595

Dunglison's aim in preparing this work was to assemble in one place information regarding the preparation and action of remedies that had recently been introduced as therapeutic agents as a result of developments in modern chemistry. He commented that information about many of these new drugs was widely scattered throughout the professional literature and so was not readily available to members of the medical community. Arranging the remedies alphabetically, Dunglison includes the medicine's synonyms, French and German names, instructions for preparation, and physiological effects. Pages 73 through 76 have been removed from the University of Iowa Libraries' copy 1.
