The year after Bairo received his medical degree at the University of Turin in 1493, he became professor of medicine at Turin and began a long and successful career. At least one of the five known works of Bairo, a highly successful author, remained in print until the early eighteenth century. The present work, first published in 1512, is a comprehensive treatise on medicine containing numerous recommendations for therapeutic remedies complete with instructions for compounding the remedy. Also included with this work is his De peste, a detailed discussion of the plague including his suggestions for curing those afflicted with the disease.
