FREDERICK RYLAND (d. 1857) A treatise on the diseases and injuries of the larynx and trachea. A. Waldie 1838 iv [7]-236 pp. 21.9 cm.
Surgeon to the Town Infirmary at Birmingham, Ryland won the Jacksonian prize in 1825 for an essay based upon diseases and injuries to the larynx and trachea. Ryland recognized that injuries and diseases of the throat were so serious and of such common occurrence that every physician should be familiar with their diagnosis and treatment. Since there was a lack of books on the subject, he published this treatise to remedy that situation. Based in part upon his prize-winning essay, the book was first published at London in 1837.
