JEAN BAPTISTE BOUILLAUD (1796-1881) Traité clinique et physiologique de l'encéphalite, ou inflammation du cerveau. J.-B. Baillière 1825 xxiv, 350 pp. 21.5 cm.
Although Bouillaud is rightly regarded as the last of the great bloodletters, he was a shrewd observer and responsible for a number of important discoveries, among them the localization of the speech center in the left cerebral hemisphere, an observation first reported in this early treatise on brain diseases. Bouillaud was dean of the Medical Faculty of Paris.
