MARTYN PAINE (1794-1877) Medical and physiological commentaries. Collins, Keese; London: John Churchill 1840 Vol. I: [8] viii [9]-716 pp.; Vol. II: v [6]-815 pp. 23.3 cm.
For more information on this author or work, see number: 1518
It was Paine's chief aim in these two volumes to present his views on the philosophical basis of pathology and physiology. He did not feel that these subjects had been fully discussed by the authors of his day and outlines his conclusions on the vital powers, humoral pathology, animal heat, digestion, inflammation, the loss of blood, and venous congestion. A third volume, not here present, is a collection of the author's letters on cholera, other pamphlets, and lectures on medical education, materia medica, and the practice of medicine.
