DANIEL PEREIRA GARDNER (d. 1853) A new medical dictionary. Harper 1847 686 [1] pp. 22.5 cm.
Gardner, professor of chemistry and medical jurisprudence at the Philadelphia College of Medicine, has here edited Hooper's (see No. 1276) popular dictionary for an American audience. Using the seventh London edition of 1839 as a basis, his aim was to produce a "dictionary entirely adapted to the use of medical students, while he has endeavored to retain all the practical matter of the previous writers, so as to make it equally invaluable to the general practitioner" (Preface, p. [7]).
