This exhaustive treatise covers diseases of the genitourinary tract that were recognized in Civiale's day. While the pathology and treatment of these diseases in both sexes is discussed, the kidneys and ureters are not included. The author limits himself to what is now known as the lower urinary tract. Comments on the work of Hunter, Home, and many French surgeons make this work a comprehensive summary of the subject for the first half of the nineteenth century. First published at Paris in 1837, this second edition has been greatly enlarged.
