Cloquet was so encouraged with the reception and success of Anatomie de l'homme that he decided to prepare a smaller and less costly edition which would be easier to use. Accordingly, he decided to produce a three volume set consisting of the text, explanation of the plates, and the plates. In this way, the reader could use all three volumes in conjunction with one another. He also took the opportunity to correct omissions from his earlier work and added a number of plates on microscopic anatomy and myology. The present set is lacking the text volume and the second part of the atlas.
