The American Asylum for Deaf-Mutes at Hartford, Connecticut was founded in 1816 by Laurent Clerc and Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet. Congress made a land grant to support it, and for over 50 years it was a training center for instructors of the deaf. This report includes lists of directors, instructors, and pupils – including pupils that had already left the school at this time.
