The present work was originally published at London in 1831 under the title, Lectures on practical midwifery. It was prepared for publication by George Skinner, a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. Skinner had attended all of Gooch's lectures and assembled his carefully kept notes for publication following Gooch's death. This was the second of Gooch's major works and consists of the course of lectures on midwifery and the diseases of women and children that he delivered at St. Bartholomew's Hospital.
