This elegantly printed atlas includes thirty annotated plates (including seventeen life-size drawings) drawn and lithographed by various artists. Simpson, a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, was lecturer on anatomy to the Artist's Anatomical Society. He intended this work to exhibit "the parts as they appear on dissection, and more particularly in the living figure; as applicable to the fine arts. Designed for the use of artists and members of the Artist's Anatomical Society" (from the subtitle).
