Warren here reports on two cases in which he intervened surgically to correct a natural fissure in the soft palate. He commented that he "understood the operation had been once done in Poland or Germany, and once by Professor Roux; but I sought in vain for details which might assist me in its performance" (p. 1). Staphylorrhaphy was successfully performed on a girl of sixteen and a boy of eleven. However, the boy contracted influenza soon after the operation and his coughing opened the adhesions. As a result Warren was forced to redo the operation at a later date and noted that he advised against the operation in children.
