Heirs of Hippocrates

The Development of Medicine in a Catalogue of Historic Books

Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 1339

FRANZ KARL NAEGELE (1778-1851) The obliquely contracted pelvis, containing also an appendix of the most important defects of the female pelvis. [n. publ.] 1939 vi [5] 69 [1] pp., 16 plates (part col.). 28.6 cm.

Naegele was professor and director of the Obstetrical Hospital at Heidelberg, and it was there, in 1839, that he wrote this highly regarded and original work on the obliquely contracted pelvis. The work was of immediate value to practicing obstetricians; the ensuing years have added little information to his original observations. The beautifully rendered lithographs are reproduced faithfully in this, the first edition in English published 100 years later.
