First published in Venice in 1489, the first of these three books on life is concerned with the life-style of those engaged in the scholarly disciplines. The second book concentrates on how one can maintain good health so they can enjoy a long life. The final book contains essays on astrological medicine and philosophy. Of interest to the medical historian are chapters on headaches, diseases of the stomach, and dietetics. Also included with De triplici vita is Arnaldus de Villanova's text of Regimen sanitatis Salernitanum (see No. 75 ff.). The book has been handsomely rubricated throughout with underlining, paragraph marks, and large capitals painted in red.
