Virey, French physician and biologist, was for many years chief pharmacist at Val de Grâce Hospital in Paris. An individual with wide interests, he taught, did research, and wrote a large number of books. Many of his writings were on philosophy and natural history although he also wrote several works on chemistry and pharmacy. This work, tracing the natural history of man, was first published in 1800.
