In evaluating Heinroth's contributions to psychiatry, Franz G. Alexander and Sheldon T. Selesnick stated "that in the detailed knowledge of personality dynamics he did not make lasting contributions, but in his general principles . . . he reached a remarkably advanced level of insight" (The history of psychiatry. New York, 1966. p. 143). This book on the medico-legal aspects of insanity is one of the first German works on the subject.
