This treatise on uterine hemorrhages is an excellent example of Boivin's careful, scholarly approach to writing and research. In the first part of the work, she discusses the normal uterus, menstruation, fetal nutrition, and uterine changes during childbirth. She also discusses the causes and types of uterine hemorrhages that result in the external discharge of blood. In the second part of the book, she discusses internal uterine hemorrhages and their types, causes, and complications. Throughout the book, she includes case histories to illustrate and support her contentions and observations. Boivin has also included sixty-nine selected aphorisms translated from the writings of Andrew Blake (fl. 1810), a member of London's Royal College of Surgeons.
