Madame Boivin expanded the second edition of this popular and important book by adding chapters on blood circulation in the fetus, nutrition of the fetus, natural childbirth and delivery by artificial means. She also added material which discussed care of the mother before, during, and after labor as well as techniques and procedures for care of the newborn infant. The aphorisms of François Mauriceau (see No. 604 ff.) and the aphorisms of Orazio Valota are also present in this edition.
