Uniform title: Herbal (Ms. British Library. Sloane 4016). Spine text reads, “Icones Plantarum, Etc. Mus. Brit. Bibl. Sloane. 4016.” Facsimile edition of British Library manuscript Sloane 4016, a medicinal herbal, consisting primarily of illustrations; manuscript produced in northern Italy, perhaps ca. 1440. Cf. British Library Catalogue of illuminated manuscripts (viewed online 17 Feb. 2012); Title and imprint from notary sheet inserted on verso of last leaf. Limited edition of 987 copies numbered in Arabic numerals, with an additional 77 copies (not for sale) numbered in roman numerals. Library copy is 441 of 987. Leaves illustrated on both sides; the first 4 and last 3 leaves blank except for information added later to the manuscript (preliminary leaf 1a, preliminary leaf 4a and 4b) or to the published edition (notary sheet, on last leaf verso). Issued in a case (40 cm). To be supplemented by commentary volume (due for publication by Jan. 2013?). Text of captions in Latin, with some equivalents in Romanized Arabic; notary sheet in Spanish, with English translation.
