Physick was not a prolific author and most of his writings were for the journals of his day. Nevertheless, he was a key figure in the development and advancement of the surgical art in America at a time when medicine was making rapid strides in Europe. Typical of Physick's contributions to the literature is this brief communication on his development of the modern tonsillotome.
