DOMINIQUE JEAN LARREY (1766-1842) Mémoires de chirurgie militarie, et campagnes. J. Smith 1812-1817 Vol. I: xxviii, 382 pp., 8 plates; Vol. II: [4] 512 pp., 2 plates; Vol. III: [4] 499 [1] pp., plate; Vol. IV: [4] 484 pp., [6] plates (3 fold.). 20 cm.

Larrey was the greatest military surgeon in history (Garrison-Morton 2160). Chief surgeon to Napoleon, whom he supported loyally, Larrey's experiences as a military surgeon, his innovations in military medical therapeutics, and his adventures in the great campaigns of Napoleon make fascinating reading. This work may be considered the best account of military medicine up to the time of its publication.
