This work and Bell's Principles of surgery (see No. 1189) are his most enduring contributions to surgery. The second "Discourse" is a particularly valuable historical discussion of surgery of the arteries. The frontispiece, drawn by Bell, is a beautiful engraving of the arteries of the thigh and groin.
