Bleuland, a native of Gouda and medical graduate of Leiden, was professor of anatomy and physiology at Utrecht for over forty years. His collection of more than 2,000 anatomical specimens became the nucleus of the Utrecht Anatomical Museum and in 1828 he published a catalogue of the collection. The present work deals with the anatomy of the esophagus in the infant and adult, its specific functions, and pathological conditions. The plates depict various aspects of the esophagus, both normal and pathological. The four colored plates each contain one small figure, unusual in anatomical illustration.
