Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 115

JACOBUS FORLIVIENSIS (d. 1413 or 1414) Expositio . . . in primum Avicenne Canonem cum questionibus eiusdem . . . castigata . . . per Hieronymum Bompillum de Oleariis. Per Jacobum Pentium de Leucho 1508] [8] 214 ll. 31.7 cm.

Jacobus (also known as Giacomo della Torre) taught philosophy and medicine at Bologna and, from 1407 until his death, at Padua. He was a celebrated teacher and his well-known commentaries on Hippocrates, Galen, and Avicenna were used as standard textbooks for many years. The present work is his commentary on the theoretical portion of Avicenna, edited by Hieronymus Bompilus de Oleariis (fl. 1508), a Veronese physician, who appends further commentaries on Avicenna by Jacques Desparts (ca. 1380-1458), the chief French representative of the Arabist school. Avicenna's text is included.
