The two plates depicting the brain of a three year old boy were drawn by Köck and engraved by Pierre Michel Alix (b. 1752) of Paris. Only three hundred copies of the book were printed and each contains one unlettered, well-imprinted plate and a second duplicate plate of poorer quality with hand-printed letters.
