For more information on this author or work, see number: 1130

The present book is one of Soemmerring's earliest and least known works. He did the majority of the research for this book while he was in his first academic post as professor of anatomy and surgery at the Collegium Carolinum in Cassell. However, he did not complete and publish the work until several years after he had moved to Mainz. Soemmerring studied a series of specimens of congenital malformations and presents faithful reproductions along with detailed descriptions of each plate. Among the plates are examples of anencephaly, diprosopus, and achondroplasia.
