First edition, a series of essays on human anatomy, especially teratology and developmental morphology, and animal electricity and Galvanic effects. Prochaska made important contributions to both these areas, opposing the preformation theory with his own epigenesist whereby organs develop progressively in the foetus from undifferentiated tissue. He also formulated a concept of nervous reflex action. The final chapter of the book, with three plates, is devoted to an acephalic monster.
