Although Bell included several chapters on testicular disease in Volume I of his System of surgery (see No. 1079), he has here broadened and expanded the subject. He did this partly in response to requests for a more detailed coverage of these problems and also because he had made some improvements in treatment of the hydrocele and sarcocele. The four plates depict a variety of instruments such as the trocar, perforator, canula, and syringe.
