Originally published in 1780, over fifty cadavers were studied before these depictions of the normal anatomy of the duodenum and its relationship to the surrounding viscera were completed. According to Choulant-Frank "this is the most valuable monograph on the duodenum, as far as its shape and its position are concerned" (p. 312). The drawings were made by Abraham Delfos (b. 1731) and the engravings were executed by Robert Muys (b. 1742).
