JOSEPH JACOB VON PLENK (1738-1807) De' morbi de' denti e delle gengie. Pezzana 1786 2nd ed. 109 pp. 15.4 cm.

Possessed of an encyclopedic mind, Plenk brought a multitude of knowledge and talents to every field he investigated. He is usually considered a member of the Viennese School together with de Haen, Stoll, Plenkiz, and Auenbrugger. So extensive were his talents that at one time or another he was professor of chemistry, botany, surgery, anatomy, and obstetrics at Vienna. Plenk is generally regarded as the founder of systematic dermatology and suggested the first practical system of dermatologic nomenclature in his Doctrina de morbis cutaneis (1776). In the present work, Plenk extends his dermatologic classification to the teeth and gums. It was originally published in Vienna in 1778 under the Latin title, Doctrina de morbis dentium ac gingivarum.
