MICHAEL UNDERWOOD (1736-1820) A treatise on the diseases of children. Printed for J. Mathews 1784 xii, 288 pp. 16 cm.
This brief but well-written book is generally considered the best eighteenth-century English work on children's diseases. It contains the first description of sclerema neonatorum (Underwood's disease) and gives a superior account of both thrush and rickets. Underwood served at the British Lying-In Hospital and was one of the most respected obstetricians in London.
